Quick recipes for homemade soap! My mom-in-law and I made the above soaps (and more) while I was in Indiana.
My favorite?
Oatmeal and Barley Soap
Soothes sensitive, dry, itchy skin.
Ingredients: 1 c. glycerin soap base (melted)
3/4 c. oatmeal
1/4 c. barley
11 c. water (boiling)
Directions: Cook 1/4 c. oatmeal and 1/4 c. barley in the boiling water @ medium heat for 15 minutes. Cool the mixture, strain out the liquid. Mix the liquid into the soap base. Stir in dry oatmeal. Pour into molds. Cool.
*Note: Make sure you don't stir the soap mixture too much or it will cause lots of bubbles in your soap (in this and any other recipe).
Tea Tree Antiseptic Soap
Works against bacteria, fungi, yeasts, viruses. Treats athletes foot and wounds. Prevents illnesses.
Ingredients: 2 c. glycerin soap base (melted)
2 T. tea tree oil
Directions: Combine, pour into molds. Cool.
We used goat milk glycerin as our soap base. It works really well, it is an awesome moisturizer, and contains Vitamin A and several B vitamins. But you can use other kinds of glycerin soap bases if you'd prefer. Enjoy!
